“To grow yourself, you must know yourself”

THERAPY & COUNSELLING

Therapy is called psychotherapy or counseling and it involves meeting with a counsellor or therapist (or in the case of group therapy, a group of people including a facilitator/counsellor/therapist) to talk through and resolve behaviours/thoughts/feelings and relationship issues that are causing concerns or hindering our daily lives.

Many people don’t understand the value or importance of counseling – however, having someone: understand our thoughts and feelings and behaviors; explain why we do what we do; give insight as to why we feel the things we do; and develop patterns of behavior… can be insightful and life-changing.

From our earliest development, we learn how to attach ourselves to others in relationships. We learn from those around us, how to behave, what to think, and how to express our feelings.  And as we develop through childhood, we learn from our environment and life experiences, how to cope and survive through our circumstances.  It’s a process and a journey involving our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and those of each and every person and experience we encounter.

Sometimes those patterns become destructive or confusing or a hindrance to our daily lives… and so exploring our needs and expectations, or where we hoped to ‘be in life’ through the means of a therapeutic relationship, can help us to talk this through and gain a greater understanding of ourselves as people and how we relate to the world and those around us!
